The 3G modem, router also known as 3G, are electronic devices that can connect a laptop or desktop computer to the Internet via a mobile line. The use 3G modem card (integrated or removable) to identify themselves to the telephone operator, are often multi-band and offer various connection options such as PCMCIA, USB, Wi-Fi or Ethernet and can also be internal.
Features
The terms 3G and 3G router modem are generic names used to designate those electronic devices that can connect with a mobile network (GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, EVDO, 3G) to gain access to the Internet from a laptop or desktop device . Strictly speaking, the modem and router are different in that the modem only serve a single computer, while the router allow all computers on a local network to access the Internet while transparently.
Currently, both benefit as the cost of the connection, the best option for accessing the Internet is a wired DSL or cable. However, in many cases the 3G modem are an option, as areas not covered by other technologies, temporary workplace for a specific project or work teams movements of short duration.
All SIM card 3G modem used for identification in the operator's network and can be integrated or removable, in which case it facilitates the exchange operator.
With respect to coverage, 3G modems are usually multi-band and automatically select the best available technology between without dropping the connection. When switching between HSPA, 3G and GPRS vary the bandwidth, but without losing the connection.
Type
Here the main types of 3G modem:
PCMCIA 3G Modem: external modem that plugs into a PCMCIA slot. 3G Modem USB external modem that plugs into a USB port. Some models have a database that implements Wi-Fi router functionality for WLAN. Integrated 3G modem, internal modem that is installed on the computer itself. 3G Router Wi-Fi, is an external modem that has Wi-Fi and Internet access to machines on a local network, acting as a router, gateway, modem, switch and wireless access point. Often includes an Ethernet interface. 3G mobile phone as a modem
Most phones can be used as a 3G modem to connect to the Internet through it from another device. To connect the device with the mobile phone will have several options depending on the connectivity available in each team. There are several possibilities:
Wired: accurate data cable, drivers and utilities, requirements that often are not available. IRDA connection: IRDA infrared port (Infrared Data Association) provides a wireless connection, but the distance should be small and the devices should be addressed. Bluetooth Connection: allows short-range wireless connection. Wi-Fi: Wireless connectivity provides greater coverage. Source: 3G Modem
