Canine Rabies


What is Canine Rabies

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals, including man. In the cities the transmitters of rabies are mostly dogs and cats, but also some wild animals like bats and foxes. Cows and horses can have rabies, but usually does not attack when they are sick.

How contagious canine rabies

The virus is found in the saliva of infected dog and rabies spread by biting another animal or person. It is known that even a sick animal can transmit rabies injury licking another animal or human.

How is Canine Rabies

1) Wash the wound with soap and water.

2) Do not put alcohol or other disinfectant. Cover the wound with clean gauze.

3) Attend a hospital quickly. The doctor will indicate the steps to follow, which among other include: applying antibiotics, tetanus, and specific anti-rabies treatment.

Consult a veterinarian quickly with particular or municipality. The animal should be observed for 10 days even if vaccinated.

As canine rabies is prevented

1) Vaccinate all dogs years after 3 months of age and revaccinated every year.

2) Avoid contact with stray animals.

3) Do not let our dogs out alone on the street, walking should always be carried with the owner and the dog collar and leash with its perfectly placed.

3) Neutering the dogs if we do not plan to make them play. It is true that breeding dogs should have once in your life, this is only a very popular belief wrong.

4) Never keep wild animals as pets.

5) Do not touch bats, although they are apparently dead in the street. They are often paralyzed by rage and when touched can bite and transmit disease.
